NDPC ANNUAL MEETING A SUCCESS

We had a spectacular line-up of speakers at the 36th Annual Meeting covering many of the topics, trends, technologies and innovations that will help keep North Dakota’s petroleum industry a step ahead. More than 370 people were registered for the Annual Meeting, helping make this year’s event another successful one. NDPC HONORS INDUSTRY LEADERS
The North Dakota Petroleum Council recognized industry leaders during the Awards Luncheon and Chairman’s Banquet at its 36th Annual Meeting on September 27.
HALL OF FAME – CRAIG SMITH
This year’s NDPC Hall of Fame inductee is Craig Smith. Smith is a partner in the Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Department at the Crowley Fleck law firm. He has been very active in the industry’s regulatory and government affairs relating to federal, state, and legislative issues, as well as county and local matters. He served as Vice-Chairman and Chairman of the North Dakota Petroleum Council from 2008 through 2012 and currently serves on the Council’s Board and Executive Committee.
OUTSTANDING SERVICE AWARD – AL CARLSON
Al was first elected to the North Dakota House in 1993 and has served as the Majority Leader for the North Dakota Republican Party since 2009. During his 24 years of service, Al has been a steadfast supporter of business and industry in the state, working tirelessly to maintain a positive regulatory environment for them to succeed.
DISTINGUISHED LEADERSHIP AWARD – BRENT ESLINGER
For more than 15 years, Brent has been at the forefront of everything Halliburton has done in North Dakota, from adding thousands of employees, to engaging in the community, supporting education and training efforts, and helping lead the Williston API Chapter. Brent has also
worked closely with the NDPC and engaged in industry issues whether it was providing technical support on new rules and regulations, working with local community officials, giving tours, or supporting industry and the Petroleum Council through sponsorships and support.
EXCELLENCE IN COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT: CRESTWOOD
Crestwood is receiving the Community Engagement Award for its commitment to building better relations between the industry and community. Over the past three years, Crestwood has contributed both time and manpower to help communities grow and succeed. This includes a pledge of $1 million for the Mandaree Head Start as well as support for events through the companies area of operation.
EXCELLENCE IN COMMUNITY SAFETY: ENERPLUS
Enerplus is receiving the Excellence in Safety Award for designing and implementing an automated tank gauging process that eliminated the need
for workers to manually gauge and retrieve samples of oil from storage tanks. The pilot project has generated exceptional results over a more than yearlong test period and may help eliminate manual tank gauging and sampling industry-wide, helping prevent and even eliminate potential health risks in the future.
EXCELLENCE IN COMMUNITY ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP: TARGA RESOURCES
Targa Resources is receiving the Environmental Stewardship Award for its pilot program to substantiate microbial enhanced bioremediation as an applicable and effective means of treating crude oil impacted soils. Their work has shown measurable success and could benefit the environment through waste reduction and preservation of natural soils while also providing the industry with a sustainable, more cost-effective alternative to the traditional “remove and replace” method of soil remediation.
VETERANS TO BE THE FOCUS OF HIRING SUMMIT
Veterans have long been sought after to fill many oilfield jobs that are available, but the channels used to recruit servicemember to the industry often fall short. Fortis Energy Services, a company that has shown years-long commitment to hiring vets, will host a summit on November 6 to discuss how employers can better turn their interest in hiring veterans into meaningful recruitment action. Once veterans are hired, the summit will also explore best HR practices to ensure veterans thrive in their post-service education and career environment.
AL GOLDEN SCHOLARS ANNOUNCED
The North Dakota Petroleum Council (NDPC) awarded a total of $18,000 from the Al Golden Scholarship Fund to nine students pursuing a post-secondary education in geology, engineering, processing plant technology, science, technology or other careers related to the oil and gas industry. The nine recipients, who were recognized during the NDPC’s Annual Meeting held in Grand Forks in September, will each receive a $2,000 scholarship for the 2017-2018 academic year.
The North Dakota Petroleum Council founded the Al Golden Scholarship Fund in 2008. The fund, which is named after North Dakota oil pioneer and the first member of the NDPC’s Hall of Fame, Al Golden, was established to encourage and support students interested in careers related to North Dakota’s oil and gas industry.
NDPC RELEASES REGISTRATION SCHEDULE FOR 2018 WBPC
The Williston Basin Petroleum Conference, the largest oil and gas conference focused exclusively on the Bakken, will return to Bismarck in 2018. The event, which has historically drawn as many as 4,200 people, will be held May 22-24, 2018 at the Bismarck Event Center.
Room blocks opened October 1 and registration for the conference will open to past sponsors and exhibitors beginning October 31 pursuant the following schedule:

BURGUM PROCLAIMS OCTOBER ENERGY AWARENESS MONTH
ANNOUNCES ENERGY AWARENESS CAMPAIGN AND VIDEO CONTEST
Governor Doug Burgum has proclaimed October Energy Awareness Month in North Dakota. This proclamation coincides with a national Energy Awareness campaign promoted by the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission (IOGCC).
The IOGCC is a multi-state government agency, of which Burgum is a member. The IOGCC advocates for environmentally sound ways to increase the supply of American energy and promotes responsible development of vital natural resources.
Burgum is helping launch Energy Awareness Month by releasing the video above to highlight how North Dakota plans on launching #ShowYourEnergy by focusing on science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics programs (STEAM) in K-12 classrooms across the state.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
The NDPC congratulates the Hess team operating Sun Rig #44 on being recognized as the company’s “Rig of the Quarter” for the second time this year. The recognition is given based on a workover rig’s performance in safety, quality, delivery and cost. Being recognized twice in one year is unprecedented, and Hess lauded the Bakken workover rig and its crew for its strong safety record and performance. To date, the rig has had zero incidences this year and had no repeat failures within 90 days. This is a remarkable feat and shows how taking the time to get the job accomplished with the utmost quality truly reduces waste.

ND MULE DEER FOUNDATION HOSTS ORGANIZATIONAL SOCIALS
North Dakota deer season is upon us and as sportsmen prepare to get out in the field, it’s important to remember the many volunteers who help rebuild and support the habitat needed to continue this great heritage.
The Mule Deer Foundation has really done some great work in 2017 by increasing its sportsman access initiative through the PLOTS program to 68,000 acres in Western ND. The MDF also helped raise $140,000 for habitat projects and youth shooting. Volunteers were also busy with seven youth events this summer and traveled throughout the state with the organization’s MULEY mobile event trailer (pellet gun and archery galleries), which was donated by the North Dakota Petroleum Council.
The Muddy Buck Chapter in Williston and the Bakken Roughnecks Chapter in Watford City are currently looking for new members and volunteers to help as their chapters grow and continue hosting banquets and events that will benefit the MDF’s mission and support for habitat for years to come. The meeting dates are:

MORE THAN ONE TON OF FOOD AND ESSENTIAL ITEMS COLLECTED DURING F.E.A.S.T.
The oil and gas industry collected more than 2,770 pounds of food and other essential items last month during the Food, Essentials and Supplies Throwdown, a friendly competition among companies to collect the most items. Bilfinger Westcon won the competition hosted by the Energy of North Dakota and won $1,000 to donate to Sporting Chance, a North Dakota volunteer-based non-profit that provides outdoor recreational activities for people with disabilities..
All items collected during the campaign were donated to social service centers and partners of the Great Plains Food Pantry. F.E.A.S.T. is just one of several volunteer drives hosted by Energy of North Dakota.
